Middle Market Collaborative for Understanding

As part of RSM's continued commitment to diversity and inclusion in the middle market, we convened the Middle Market Collaborative for Understanding (The Collaborative) in 2021. This group of middle market business leaders is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion, and to working together to actively advance inclusion and racial understanding within our own organizations as well as within the broader middle market business community.

Our annual inclusion summit brings employee network group members, firm leaders and other allies together to discuss timely and relevant topics and issues to keep inclusion front and centre for influencers within our firm, while fostering relationships and understanding.

Since 2014, RSM has supported employee network groups (ENGs) that provide opportunities for volunteerism, professional development, mentorship and networking for everyone at our firm. Our 12 ENGs bring together people with diverse experiences and similar interests. Each offers unique ways for all employees to grow and learn, while they celebrate all walks of life, genders, interests and backgrounds.

Inclusion Starts with I

At RSM, we understand that the diverse thinking of our 13,000+ people in Canada and the US is what helps our middle market clients succeed. And we encourage our people to bring their authentic selves to the workplace. To celebrate what makes us unique, we’re sharing a series of  “Inclusion Starts with I”  videos featuring Managing Partner and CEO Joe Adams having conversations with our national employee network group leaders and some of the groups’ members. Through these conversations we recognize and celebrate our differences while simultaneously having candid conversations about the issues affecting each group and how we can all work together to create a more inclusive world—both inside and outside of the workplace.

Our employee network groups (ENGs) bring together people with diverse experiences and similar interests. They are a critical component of what makes RSM an equitable and inclusive firm where diverse talent excels.

Leadership

RSM devotes a full-time team exclusively to our culture, diversity and inclusion (CDI) efforts. Our national leader of CDI, Tracey Walker, leads our CDI program, and drives inclusion efforts with RSM employees, clients and communities. She serves as chair of Northern Virginia Urban League’s board of directors and is on the Historically Black College and Universities Council, devoting time to her passion for the advancement of youth through education. She is also a Cornell University-certified diversity advanced practitioner.

RSM’s Inclusion Council serves as an executive-level CDI advisory board, made up of executives who lead, advocate for, coordinate, inform and/or monitor the strategic diversity management process. The Inclusion Council helps guide, shape and advance organizational culture and policy for the firm.

In addition, thousands of RSM professionals devote time to internal workforce and workplace initiatives (including participation in our 12 employee network groups), as well as marketplace and community programs, such as diverse organization partnership, corporate citizenship, supplier diversity and diverse subcontracting.
