History
RSM Canada’s history is rich with entrepreneurship, service excellence and a commitment to delivering value to our clients.
1962
Smith, Nixon & Co. LLP was founded by Ron Smith and Harry Nixon.
1992
DMCT LLP was founded. A group of professionals working for a Big Four accounting firm envisioned a firm that would offer a comparable level of specialized knowledge and similar breadth of services, along with an entrepreneurial spirit and a client-focused approach.
2008
As an established Toronto firm seeking to expand its reach, DMCT joined the Collins Barrow National network and rebranded as Collins Barrow Toronto.
2009
Collins Barrow Toronto and Smith Nixon merged to create one of Toronto's largest audit practices. This marked the first mid-market merger of its size in Toronto in more than 25 years.
2013
Collins Barrow Toronto acquired entrepreneurial, mid-sized Toronto firm Rich Rotstein LLP. This merger positioned the firm as one of the largest accounting firms in Toronto, with one of the largest valuation practices in the country. That same year, the firm joined with a leading team of actuarial and insurance consultants, Dion Durrell, launching Collins Barrow Toronto’s actuarial practice.
2018 and beyond
Collins Barrow Toronto changed its name to RSM Canada LLP, uniting with fellow firms in the RSM International network. We are proud of our heritage and are dedicated to delivering the power of being understood to entrepreneurial, growing organizations around the world as we take Canada’s middle market to the global market.
