About Troy

Troy Cardinal is a principal and chief information officer for RSM US LLP. He oversees technology strategy, operations and digital solutions for the United States and Canada, working to align RSM's information technology programs and projects with the firm's strategic objectives and enterprise priorities.

Experience

Troy is a consensus-building problem solver who uses technology on an enterprise scale to help others improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their work. Under his leadership, RSM has been designated as one of Computerworld’s “Top 100 Best Places to Work in IT” for seven years in a row.

Troy serves on the firm’s leadership team, the IT strategy committee, the security advisory council, the innovation executive committee, the digital experience task force and the firm’s culture, diversity and inclusion leadership council. He is also the leader of the firmwide office in Minneapolis.

Prior to RSM, Troy spent more than 15 years in technology consulting, collaborating with domestic and global clients on technology strategy and governance, IT mergers and acquisitions, IT innovation, IT security and enterprise risk management.

At RSM, he is passionate about team building and comes by it naturally. As the son of a former Big Ten basketball trainer, the brother of a former NBA basketball player, and a former volunteer basketball coach for nearly 25 years, Troy is best known by colleagues and clients for his sports analogies. He knows that every winning team requires individual contributors to bring their best talents to every interaction. He works to live by that mantra on the court and in the office every day. As a passionate and energetic leader, he focuses on creating solutions that help clients, colleagues and the firm win in the marketplace.

Troy’s focus on stewardship is at the core of some of his proudest professional accomplishments. Known for steadily volunteering his time to nonprofit organizations focused on youth and family in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area since 1997, Troy may be the most pleased for the work RSM Minneapolis does every fall—supporting inner-city elementary schools as part of RSM’s annual Volunteer Day. Since 2016, the Minneapolis office has raised over $1 million and averaged over 300 employees volunteering each year, as they’ve worked to help transform classrooms, gardens, playgrounds and gathering spaces for Minneapolis public schoolchildren.
