Newton DeNiese is a partner in RSM Canada’s technical accounting consulting practice and the TAC leader of specialty finance companies and fintech in North America. Based in Toronto, he is also part of the financial services TAC leadership team and is the firm’s technical resource in cross-border global accounting matters, helping teams move from IFRS to US GAAP and vice versa.
As RSM’s specialty finance and fintech TAC practice leader, Newton advises clients on getting ready for capital markets (IPO/SPAC) and navigating credit risk accounting complexities. He has more than 20 years of international experience providing auditing and accounting services to clients in banking, specialty finance, financial services and lending institutions in Bahrain, Canada, India, the United Kingdom, Spain and Qatar.
Born and raised in India, Newton joined RSM Canada in 2018 after working for a Big Four firm internationally, where he established accounting advisory practices focused on financial service clients. Newton served as part of a Big Four firm’s engagement team, auditing large, Schedule 1 local and international banks, where he gained significant experience on credit risk management and valuation of complex credit-related financial instruments.
Newton provides a calming presence for clients facing stressful situations. He asks the right questions and listens for a true understanding of what his clients require. Using his critical thinking skills, he applies unique solutions that work for each client. He is collaborative and brings forth the full strength of the firm to ensure RSM is the first-choice advisor to clients globally.
In addition, Newton provides a safe space for the next generation of RSM talent to grow under his guidance. He brings less-experienced staff members along on client engagements, providing opportunities for them to take the lead with him by their side for support. He serves as a career advisor to several proteges and guides them on strategies for success within the firm.
Newton is part of the firm’s InspirAsian employee network group, helping other immigrants acclimate to new surroundings and discuss issues relevant to their experiences. He is also part of the firm’s Family First ENG, which celebrates and supports working families at RSM.
