Morris Marshburn is national leader of specialty finance within RSM US LLP’s financial services practice. He has more than 36 years of experience in public accounting, including over 31 years with RSM, providing assurance, tax and consulting services to public and private specialty finance companies across the United States. He is based in RSM’s Raleigh, North Carolina, office.
While at RSM, Morris has helped solidify the firm’s reputation in the marketplace as a leading service provider for the specialty finance industry. He is designated as an assurance engagement partner and is also authorized to perform engagement quality reviews for both public and private RSM specialty finance audit engagements. Morris serves as relationship and assurance functional leader for clients as well as assists with engagements involving strategic planning, operational reviews, transaction support, securitizations, 144A debt offerings, initial public offerings, readiness assessments, lender advisory, and related services for the firm’s specialty finance clients.
As a specialty finance leader, Morris is responsible for a team of client servers working with all types of lending institutions such as those providing commercial and consumer loans as well as new industry participants such as fintechs and specialty finance operating companies merging with special purpose acquisition companies which are trending at this time. With his broad knowledge of the firm’s capabilities, Morris works to bring a holistic view to client consultations, adding value from the lens of many functional areas, from assurance and accounting-specific topics as well as enhanced performance recommendations surrounding profitability, financing, and technology. He is actively involved in federal and state industry associations and related activities to continually deepen his understanding of all aspects of specialty finance operations.

He has written numerous articles for industry publications and initiated the industry financial performance surveys currently being performed annually for the American Financial Services Association. He is also a prior recipient of AFSA’s Distinguished Service Award, the association’s highest level of recognition for member activities. RSM is a prominent sponsor of specialty finance industry association activities and annual meetings on a national and state level.
A sports enthusiast, Morris played collegiate baseball at UNC Wilmington and now maintains a low handicap when he has time to golf. He also enjoys offshore fishing when he’s not advising RSM’s specialty finance clients.
