Mark Gay advises CFOs, CAOs and boards of public companies, and those considering an IPO, on navigating the complex regulatory and reporting environment while building a tax function that is technology-enabled, proactive in tax planning to create value for the business, and grounded in effective controls to manage risk and cost.
Mark leads or supports the team with delivery of tax strategic planning, tax technology, quarterly financial reporting, return preparation and audit defense on some of RSM US LLP’s largest tax clients. He and his teams lead tax co-sourcing of ASC 740 financial reporting and tax return preparation that serve as the foundation for integrated tax planning that generates value for the business. This includes due diligence, acquisition structuring, credits and incentives, international planning and adoption of technology for greater efficiency and accuracy in the tax function. Having served as tax director of a $3 billion business before joining RSM, Mark relates to the needs of clients and the demands on in-house tax talent.
As national tax industrials leader, Mark sets strategy for our client experience and works across the firm on the development of service offerings for the industrials practice. He brings our clients and engagement teams insights on tax policy and business trends that affect the domestic and global manufacturing, energy and logistics sectors. Mark works across the firm’s service lines to ensure client needs are heard, incorporated into project planning, and stay top of mind for the team during project delivery.

Mark and his team support tax leaders develop and implement AI for tax, process improvements, and enhanced reporting that allows tax leaders to readily demonstrate the value they bring to their organization.
Mark previously served on the board of directors of Loaves & Fishes of Mecklenburg County and is a tutor and “lunch buddy” role model for elementary school students.
