About Kate

Kate Seitz is partner and national director of capital markets for RSM US LLP, responsible for developing and setting policies and methodologies for the national capital markets team. She is highly engaged with the firm’s culture, diversity and inclusion (CDI) efforts as national leader of STAR, RSM’s employee network group (ENG) supporting and advancing women professionals in the firm. She previously led the firm’s InspirAsian ENG, engaging Asian professionals in career development. Kate joined the firm in 2003 and is based in the Chicago office.

Experience

Kate has more than 17 years of experience in the public accounting industry, primarily focused on financial services and capital markets. She has experience with a variety of industry participants, including business development companies, private equity funds, broker-dealers, futures commission merchants, hedge funds and commodity pools. Kate is responsible for serving clients in the private equity and capital markets space and providing consultations and quality reviews for engagement teams.

As the national director of capital markets, Kate is responsible for firmwide, industry-related assurance matters, including accounting, independence, and risk management. In this technical role, she sets policies and regularly shares updated guidance and training with her team and clients. Kate is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Stockbrokerage and Investment Banking Expert Panel, responsible for helping determine and publish updated guidance. Her deep involvement with this professional organization brings tremendous value to clients, as she serves as a primary source of changes in the industry.

Kate is heavily involved in RSM’s CDI initiative as leader of STAR, RSM’s ENG formed to advance and retain women. Energized by the impact of CDI on RSM’s people, Kate’s goals for STAR include continuing to build national programming for members, recruiting more allies within the firm, and helping grow the firm through sales and growth training. Kate also leads RSM’s CDI Inclusion Council.

In addition to her roles at RSM, Kate was an inspections specialist in the broker-dealer program of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). During her tenure there, Kate led the implementation of the AICPA clarity standards, oversaw the annual updates to the inspection methodology guidance, contributed to the issuance of PCAOB’s broker-dealer assurance standards (AS 17 and attestation standards), and inspected audit firms for compliance with accounting and auditing standards.

Kate appreciates the opportunity to do something different every day in her work at RSM. She loves celebrating successful engagements with her team and clients over a delicious meal. A self-professed foodie, Kate always has a great restaurant recommendation at the ready.
