Dan Whelan is a risk consulting partner and national industry leader for business and professional services (BPS) for RSM US LLP. He is also the Southeast risk consulting leader and a member of the national risk consulting team for RSM. He has been with the firm for 20 years.
Dan has more than 30 years of experience providing risk and financial advisory services to global organizations and companies. He makes sure the risk consulting practice drives strategies that build on the firm’s industry strength and fulfill the firm’s commitment to embracing enterprise convergence through the lens of industry. He provides insights to the marketplace about issues and trends while enabling client service teams to do the same, accelerating their careers through a deeper industry focus and acting as first-choice advisors.
Prior to his industry role, Dan spent much of his career focused on Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) implementation and sustainability, internal audit, enterprise risk management and fraud prevention. Now with his focus on industry, he has been active in growing and supporting the various subsectors within BPS as well as government contractors focused on the business and professional services sectors. He has a deep understanding of the issues and opportunities that RSM clients are facing and develops creative solutions to deliver the power of being understood in each client engagement.
As a facilitator of solutions, Dan takes a holistic approach to connect the dots for team members to make sure solutions are developed from an industry-first perspective. He is passionate about collaborating with colleagues across service and geographic lines to deliver the highest level of client service and bring the full strength of the firm’s client solutions. With a commitment to stewardship, he is satisfied when he knows he’s had a hand in advancing an RSM colleague’s career by helping them become the best they can be.
Dan is a frequent speaker and writer on topics related to internal audit and SOX. He is active in RSM’s culture, diversity and inclusion efforts as part of the firm’s Abilities and ¡HOLA! employee network groups to support the differently abled. A native Washingtonian, he has been happily married for almost 30 years and is the father of two adult children.
