My childhood lesson in sustainability
When I was a kid, my parents always reminded me not to waste electricity because it would increase the electricity bills. As I grew up, I realized that wasting energy not only costs money but also increases carbon emissions. By conserving energy, I save my money and contribute to a healthier planet.
Passion for biking
My interest in biking started in college when I had no money and no job. Biking was a great way to save my money as it was a cheaper mode of transportation. It is also cost-effective, leads to no emissions, keeps the environment pollution-free and promotes a cleaner, greener world.
Eco-champ on two-wheels
Biking has been the driving force behind my journey as an eco-champ. I have been riding my bike for about 20 years now, using it for all reasons for transportation, such as dropping my children at their schools, going to the grocery store and commuting to work, even in the snow and negative temperatures.
Eco-friendly initiatives at RSM
I’m a big believer in taking advantage of opportunities that come my way. When I joined RSM, I was excited to discover the facilities for biking, such as locker rooms, showers and secure bike storage. I realized that I was on the platform to leverage my experience, influence my colleagues to utilize the amenities and raise awareness about the ease of biking to work.
Bike to work: A small initiative, making a big difference
Last year, I successfully hosted the first bike-to-work event in my local office as part of the national bike-to-work day initiative. This activity aimed at encouraging people to bike to work, reduce their carbon footprint and support environmental sustainability. I plan to continue hosting this event every year as a firmwide initiative.
RSM’s caring culture
RSM recognizes people's passions and involvement in building a positive culture, which is why I love working at RSM. It feels like more than just a job. The flexible work culture encourages me to pursue my passion outside of normal work hours. If RSM didn't have a flexible work culture, I wouldn't have the time to promote biking to work and be part of this national effort.
The final word
Saving our environment is truly in our hands by taking small, eco-friendly initiatives. By using a bike, you can contribute to Mother Earth, and in return, she will reward you with fun and the experience of nature’s beauty. Happy Earth Day!
