Bill Loring, tax managing director, shares his journey of balancing leadership in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) with the joys and challenges of raising four children. He demonstrates that with trust and flexibility, it’s possible to grow as a leader and a parent.

In his own words:


Being named the 2025 Working Father of the Year is an incredible honor. In many ways, this feels like something I’ve been building toward throughout my career. My wife, Danielle, and I welcomed our first son when I was still in the early years of my public accounting career. The juggling in those days looked vastly different from the working father I am now. I have advanced a few stages in my career, and along the way, Danielle and I have welcomed more children to our family.

As a leader in the mergers and acquisitions (M&A) tax space, I’ve spent years cultivating strong relationships with leadership, my colleagues in the local Boston office and the teams I work with. By consistently showing up for our clients and colleagues, I’ve earned the trust to create more flexibility in how I deliver to our practice. I rely on the basic tools of our work, Microsoft Teams chats and a transparent calendar, to demonstrate how I balance my role as a parent and a professional. That trust has allowed me to operate with flexibility, without ever compromising outcomes for my clients or my team.

My calendar may reflect orthodontist appointments, sports practices and family dinners, but behind that transparency is a deep commitment to being fully invested in my work. I’ve taken calls from the sidelines, reviewed models from my truck and worked late into the night after my house has quieted down. For me, strong leadership is about consistently showing up for clients, colleagues and family.

Driving to basketball, hockey, soccer, lacrosse or ballet practice has become more than just a routine; it’s a chance to connect. I treasure those small moments in the car, filled with laughter and conversations that offer a glimpse into my kids’ lives. These everyday rides have become some of my most meaningful memories. Early in my career, I worried I wouldn’t be able to maintain that connection with the demands of the M&A space. Today, I’m grateful for the leaders of RSM, my practice and my teams for helping me strike this important balance.

This award is a reminder that working fathers don’t have to choose between leadership at work and leadership at home. With the right support on both fronts, both are possible.
