Jennifer Palma is a senior associate on RSM’s Microsoft D365 Enterprise team based in El Salvador. Her caregiving journey is deeply connected to her grandmother, Blanca Estela Madrid de Canales, who raised Jennifer from a young age and served as a mother figure throughout her life. Her love and steady support helped shape the person Jennifer is today. More than a grandmother, she was one of the most important people in Jennifer's life and the person who taught her the meaning of unconditional love.
When her grandmother's health began to decline, Jennifer stepped into the role of primary caregiver, managing her grandmother’s day-to-day caregiving responsibilities while continuing to grow her career at RSM. During one of the most demanding periods of Jennifer’s life, she became an emotional and practical source of support for her family, navigating unexpected challenges with resilience, compassion and grace.
Throughout her grandmother's illness, Jennifer learned what it means to remain present through uncertainty. Caring for someone who had devoted so much of her life to caring for others gave Jennifer a deeper understanding of responsibility and what matters most. For Jennifer, caregiving was never just about attending medical appointments or helping through difficult days. It was an opportunity to give back a small part of the love and care her grandmother had given her throughout her life. While the experience brought difficult moments and sacrifices, it also created memories Jennifer treasures deeply and lessons that continue to guide her today.
What makes Jennifer's story especially remarkable is her ability to balance caregiving responsibilities with professional excellence. Colleagues describe Jennifer as someone they can count on, with a deep commitment to her family and her work. While providing care for her grandmother, Jennifer continued contributing to key projects, supporting teammates and delivering exceptional results. Many coworkers were unaware of the full extent of the challenges she faced because she approached each day with professionalism and a steady positive presence.
Beyond her own caregiving responsibilities, Jennifer has made a meaningful impact on those around her. Through her openness and authenticity, she has helped normalize conversations about caregiving, grief, mental health and family responsibilities. Her strength and vulnerability have inspired colleagues facing their own challenges and demonstrated that personal hardships do not diminish one's ability to make a difference.
Although Jennifer's grandmother passed away in December 2025, her legacy remains an enduring part of Jennifer's life. Today, Jennifer continues supporting her grandfather while carrying forward the values her grandmother instilled in her: kindness, compassion and a commitment to serving others. Jennifer’s story reflects the strength, resilience and selflessness caregivers bring to their families, workplaces and communities. Through her dedication to those she loves and her positive impact on others, she embodies the spirit of RSM’s Working Caregiver of the Year recognition.
