African American and Canadian Excellence employee network group

Supporting our African American and Black professionals

Our African American and Canadian Excellence (AACE) employee network group (ENG) focuses on furthering RSM’s business, diversity and inclusion objectives by actively supporting the recruitment, development and retention of talented Black and African American professionals and other minorities. It helps raise diversity awareness and inclusiveness among leaders and colleagues.

RSM is a top sponsor of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) and its annual convention. We send a team of RSM ambassadors to the event for networking, education and recruiting. AACE members also have access to a firm-paid membership to NABA.

Through local, regional and national NABA events, AACE members have the opportunity to network, collaborate with colleagues in the profession and foster relationships that provide opportunities for business development and career growth.

RSM's Season of Service honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy

RSM’s Season of Service campaign honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s inspiring legacy of servant leadership and unity. Sponsored by the African American and Canadian Excellence and Interfaith employee network groups, this initiative empowers us to share our time, talent and resources to make a meaningful impact.

Last year, our dedicated RSM volunteers raised over $88,000 through Dollars for Doers grants and RSM US Foundation donations. This impressive effort included more than 500 hours of service from our committed volunteers. Additionally, generous contributions to the Foundation amplified our ability to make a lasting difference.

Donnovan Maginley Making a Difference Award

About the award

This award was established in memory of our friend and a partner in RSM’s government assurance practice, Donnovan Maginley. Donnovan passed away unexpectedly in November 2018 and the award remains a way to honour his passion for pursuing excellence, focusing on his clients and team, and being a valued first-choice advisor. It also exemplifies AACE's mission of furthering RSM's business, diversity and inclusion objectives by actively supporting the recruitment, development and retention of talented Black professionals and other minorities.

2025 winner: Jarrett James

With more than eight years of public accounting experience in RSM’s asset management practice, Jarrett focuses on aligning industry insights with client needs. As part of the award, Jarrett will recieve $5,000 to pursue personal and professional excellence. Additionally, he has chosen Hope Chicago to receive a $2,500 donation from the RSM US Foundation. A cause close to his heart, Hope Chicago drives systemic change in educational access and opportunities for low-income families in Illinois.

My passion and pursuit of excellence come from a deep sense of gratitude for the opportunities and blessings I’ve received. In response to those, both known and unknown, who have poured into, supported and encouraged me, I strive to say ‘thank you’ by being the best that I can be every day and passing those same opportunities to others.
